*Honored movies that were released in 1998
It was the first time in the Award´s history that the event was on a Sunday. Whoopi Goldberg was the host for the event and she opened the show with Elizabethan clothes and presented herself as the African Queen. Also "Life Is Beautiful" was nominated in both Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Film in the same year. Two actresses, Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench were nominated for their performance as Queen Elizabeth I in the same year and for playing the same character.
