Steve Martin was the host for the event. There were two honorary awards. Director Steven Soderbergh received two out of the five awards in the directing category. "Gladiator" was the first movie to win for best picture and not directing or writing since 1949. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" received 10 nominations won for Foreign Language and for Art Direction. For cinematography Peter Pau won for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." For costume design Janty Yates won for "Gladiator." For film editing Stephen Mirrione won for "Traffic." For makeup Rick Baker and Gail Ryan won for "Dr. Seuss." Also for music (original song) "Things Have Changed" won from "Wonder Boys" and music was by Bob Dylan.
